OCTOBER 2000

Tuesday, October 3

We drove 176 miles to Pioneer RV Park in Guthrie, Oklahoma which is just north of Oklahoma City. We decided to stop here for the night so that we could make it through downtown Oklahoma City after the morning rush hour was over. After we parked, we did grocery shopping.

Wednesday, October 4

We made it through Oklahoma City this year without any problems (last year, someone cut in front of us and ran over some road debris which went under the pickup and hit the generator door on the fifth wheel, bending it). We drove 202 miles to Post Oak Place RV Park in Denton, Texas. Before stopping at the RV park, however, we stopped at Camping World to pick up supplies. After we parked, we decided to go out to dinner and tried Mexican food at the Mercado Juarez Cafe which was very good.

Thursday, October 5

We had breakfast at Cracker Barrel, stopped at Home Depot to pick up filters and other supplies, and then drove 121 miles to Sun Country Resort in Whitney, Texas. Sun Country Resort, our home Coast to Coast park.

Friday, October 6

We drove into Waco to do shopping, including the purchase of a new lap top since I haven't been able to get AOL to work properly on the laptop I'd had to reformat. We stopped for lunch at Olive Garden while we were in town.

Tuesday, October 10

We've been taking it pretty easy while we've been at Sun Country Resort, resting up from the mad dash across country from Seattle to Goshen, Indiana for the Fall Escapade, the worrying over our king pin problem (well, I worried about it), and the New Horizons Owner's rally in Manhattan, Kansas. It's nice just to sit around and not do much of anything (although I did do the September update for our web site). Today, Earl went golfing at the Whitney Lake Golf Club and then we went out to dinner at The Ranch Mexican Restaurant where we had some so-so Mexican food.

Maxx taking it easy, too!

Thursday, October 12

We drove 156 miles to White's RV Park in Clyde, Texas, a Camper Clubs of America park.

Friday, October 13

Yikes! Friday the 13th! Oh well, we're not superstitious (are we?). We drove 260 miles to Trapark RV Park in Pecos, Texas, an Escapees park.

We decided to try the same restaurant we'd been to the last time we were in Pecos because we'd had such a good meal there...Sandra's Tejano Steakhouse. I tried to remember what I'd had the last time that was so good, but what I ordered (Chili Rellenos), either wasn't what I'd ordered the last time, or they'd changed the way it was prepared. Actually, the Chili Rellenos were good, but they were really, really HOT! I like hot foods, but these were too hot, even for me.

Sunday, October 15

We drove 233 miles to El Paso West RV Park in Anthony, New Mexico...just a few miles west of El Paso, Texas.

Monday, October 16

Drove 86 miles to Dream Catcher RV Park in Deming, New Mexico, an Escapee park. We went out to dinner at K Bob's Steakhouse where we had an excellent meal.

Neighbors at SKP Park

We drove to Willcox, Arizona expecting to spend the night in Brewer's Truck Repair's lot so we could have our truck serviced in the morning (oil and filter changes, etc.). However, when we got there and unhooked, they came and got the truck and did the service right then. It was still early when they finished, so we decided to go on to the Saguaro Co-Op in Benson, Arizona (an Escapee park). Total mileage for the day: 180.

We checked to see where we were on the Hot List (the list for purchasing a lot at the park)...we'd gone from 180-something last year when we signed up to 137 now. If it keeps up at this rate, we should be able to purchase a lot in about 3 years.

We had dinner at Galleano's where we had an excellent Italian dinner.

Another week of taking it easy...we did grocery shopping, went out to dinner at the Chute-Out Steakhouse, and ate lunch at Galleano's and at Country Folks restaurants.

Thursday, October 26 - Tuesday, October 31

Drove 129 miles to Rover's Roost SKP Co-Op, another Escapees park, in Casa Grande, Arizona. Had breakfast at Country Folks on our way out of Benson. We stopped at the Costco in Tucson to do much needed stocking up of supplies. We had another week (6 days really) of taking it easy. Earl went golfing at Francisco Grande Resort, we had lunch at the Golden Corral, breakfast at Mom's Cafe, and did grocery shopping.
